Portia Langley

I’m Portia Langley, a visual storyteller, photographer, and communications professional whose work centers on culture and Black lived experience. Born and raised on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, I grew up in close relationship with agriculture, picking and eating fresh fruits and vegetables, learning from my grandmother’s garden, and listening to my uncle speak about the importance of farming and land.

Photography became a way to document and honor where I’m from. For more than 15 years, I’ve worked professionally in visual storytelling and communications, leading internal and external communications across digital and traditional platforms. My career includes work with USDA Rural Development, where I engaged with rural communities across Louisiana, and more recently with Fightingville Fresh Farmers Market, where I collaborate directly with farmers and land stewards.

This work has brought me full circle and back into proximity with agriculture that feels familiar and rooted. My storytelling is shaped by lived experience, cultural memory, and a commitment to documenting meaningful moments that connect people to land, food, and freedom.
