Cherise Morris is a writer, performance artist, and spirit worker from rural Virginia, based in Detroit, MI. Her essays have been published in numerous journals and magazines and twice recognized as notable works by the Best American Essays series. Her debut collection of essays, "Elemental Blackness: Black Liberation and the Natural World," is forthcoming in 2026.
